Free Tai Chi and strength classes for St George

3 July

The South West Hospital and Health Service allied health team at St George are now offering free strength, balance and Tai Chi classes for St George residents.

The beginners Tai Chi class hosted its first class on Tuesday June 24 at the St George Bowls Club, from 2 pm to 3 pm.

The Tai Chi classes will continue on Tuesday afternoons.

Benefits of Tai Chi include better coordination and balance, reduced stress, anxiety, stiffness and fatigue, increased flexibility and alertness, and better posture.

No booking is required for Tai Chi classes, just turn up and enjoy.

The allied health team has also begun strength and balance workshops at the St George Hospital physiotherapy department on Tuesday mornings from 11 am to 12 noon.

The strength and balance workshops can help people to recover strength after a fall, if they have been ill or after an operation, or if people feel unsteady on their feet.

The workshops aim to improve strength and balance, plus provide opportunities for social interaction and access to targeted resources.

A referral from a General Practitioner or health professional is required to attend the strength and balance workshops.

Both of these programs are free of charge.
