This means we are committed to helping patients and health professionals talk to each other about tests, treatments and procedures, supporting them to make decisions together, improving care and reducing treatment that may be of limited overall benefit.
Choosing Wisely is an initiative that brings the community together to improve the quality of healthcare through considering tests, treatments, and procedures where evidence shows they provide no benefit or, in some cases, lead to harm.
It is being led by Australia’s colleges, societies and associations and is facilitated by NPS Medicine Wise.
As a patient, family member of carer, you may like to use these Choosing Wisely questions when you meet with your health professional to make sure you get the right amount of care – not too much and not too little.
- B - What are the benefits?
- R - What are the risks?
- A - What are the alternatives?
- N - What if I do nothing?
- D - What are the delivery options?
