Education and Research Support

Research Day

The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) Annual Research Day is aimed at providing staff with an opportunity to:

  • Showcase their research and discuss outcomes for health care
  • Develop skills in presenting research in a friendly and supportive environment
  • Learn about new research and develop ideas for new research
  • Network with other researchers in the Sunshine Coast Region
  • Foster an environment of learning and mentoring.

The 2016 Research Day will be held on 19 October 2016 in the Nambour General Hospital auditorium. Information on the 2016 Research Day and call for abstracts will be updated on this site soon.

Research Support

The Research Governance Unit provides general support to researchers to facilitate the development of their research projects through the following positions:

  • Research Governance Officer
    The Research Governance Officer is available to provide support and guidance on research approval requirements; and to assist with the development of research agreements and other regulatory requirements. Contact the Research Governance Officer on 07 5470 5580 or
  • Research Support Officer
    Staff requiring support with the development and review of research protocols and methodology, grants submissions, ethics/governance applications and publications/presentations should contact the Research Support Officer on 07 5470 5504.    
  • Statistician/Biostatistician
    The SCHHS currently does not have a resident statistician. For support in this area, contact the Research Support Officer or collaborating research institutions.

Research Training

Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
The SCHHS is a member of Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS) which offers education and training to Hospital and Health Service employees in areas pertinent to clinical research including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. It is recommended that all staff who are involved in clinical trials and clinical research have completed an accredited GCP training course. If you wish to take advantage of this membership or to undertake a course, please contact for more information.

International Air Transport Association (IATA)
Training in the handling and shipping of biological substances, Category B & Dry Ice is a mandatory requirement for Hospital and Health Service employees handling and shipping any biological substances for research.  Training can be arranged through Pathology Queensland.  Please contact for further information.

Access to Statistical Programs

Statistical programs (e.g. STATA) are available within the SCHHS Library.  Please contact for further information.
