Clinic check-in kiosks

Hospital waiting room with Queue Manager screenThe outpatient journey at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) provides clinic patients with modern facilities and new technologies designed to make the patient experience a pleasant one.

Among the new technologies patients will encounter in our clinic areas are the Queue Manager patient check-in kiosks.

There are 10 kiosks located throughout SCUH, which, like airport terminals, allow patients to check in for their appointment/s without standing in a queue at the reception desk.

These are located near the main entry and rear entry on the Ground Floor, in the Ambulatory Care Centre on Level 1, in the Adem Crosby Cancer Care Centre on the Ground Floor, in the Womens and Families reception area on Level 4, and the Clinical Investigation Unit on Level 2.

How it works:

By scanning the barcode on a clinic appointment letter or swiping a Medicare or DVA Card, patients can conveniently check in for appointments.

Patients are issued with a printed appointment ticket with a number that will be called via electronic annunciator boards in the clinic waiting areas when their appointment is ready. An SMS messaging function is also available at check-in which enables patients to go for a coffee, or wait for their appointments in the hospital grounds and other areas of the hospital, and receive a message when their appointment is approaching.

Patient using the Queue Manager kioskThis means less waiting in queues, less congestion in waiting areas, and more convenient communication.

Watch the video (open with Mozilla Firefox), which explains more of the fantastic functionality of the self-check-in kiosks and shows how easy they are to use. A brochure has also been produced to assist patients using the kiosks. A Clinic check-in kiosk information brochure (PDF, 536 KB) has also been produced to assist patients using the kiosks.

Our team of friendly Volunteers will be close by to assist and support patients with the new check-in process, and answer queries about the new hospital.
