Public patients at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital (SCUPH)

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service has contracted the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital (SCUPH) to assist in treating public patients until mid-2018.

The private hospital will increase the capacity of public and private health care on the Sunshine Coast, with an expected 12,000 public patients per year to be treated at the facility.

The treatment of public patients at SCUPH­­ represents the single biggest increase in public healthcare capacity on the Sunshine Coast at any one time.

Referrals

Every public patient treated at the private hospital must be referred by Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service. Public patients will not pay for any treatment they receive at the private hospital that would have been provided free of charge at a public healthcare facility.

Services

The private hospital will offer the following services for public patients:

  • Ear, nose and throat surgery (including paediatric ENT)
  • Gastroenterology
  • General medicine
  • General surgery
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Urology
  • Coronary angiography (diagnostic)

Note: SCUPH will not have an emergency department or provide birthing services.
