🧪💬 At first glance, Nuclear Medicine Technologist sounds like a highly technical job — but Emma shows us it’s just as much about people.

For Emma, every day in nuclear medicine is a fast-paced mix of science and care.

As part of her role, she prepares radiopharmaceuticals, manages patient prep, operates advanced imaging equipment like PET and gamma cameras, and analyses results to help diagnose and treat serious conditions from heart disease to bone and kidney disorders.

She also plays an integral role caring for patients, who are often anxious and sometimes unable to sleep the night before.

“My job is to explain every step, ease their fears, and simply be there with them.”

Scans can take up to five hours 😲, and the hospital environment is constantly shifting, especially in a busy cardiothoracic unit. But with 13 years of experience, Emma knows how to balance pressure with compassion.

“You’ve got to slow down, even when the day is moving fast. For the patient, this might be their first time. That perspective matters.”

Behind the screens and scanners, Nuclear Medicine Technologists like Emma make a powerful impact not just through technology, but through connection.
