Prevention Strategic Framework 2017 to 2026

The Prevention Strategic Framework 2017 to 2026 sets a pathway for reducing chronic diseases and improving health for all Queenslanders.

An important aim of any health system is to prevent disease and reduce illness so that people live long, healthy lives. Healthy behaviours such as not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active and healthy food and drink choices reduce the risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers. Lifestyle-related chronic diseases are preventable.

Goal

To increase the proportion of Queenslanders who adopt healthy behaviours and reduce unhealthy behaviours.

The framework provides for the identification, delivery and progress reporting of priority actions over the next 10 years. It supports the Department of Health’s strategic objectives – in particular, to promote and protect the health and wellbeing of current and future generations of Queenslanders.

The Department of Health partnering with Health and Wellbeing Queensland, Hospital and Health Services, other government agencies, community, industry and academic sectors in:

  • creating healthier places where people live, work, learn and play
  • empowering people with the knowledge, positive attitudes, motivation and skills to live healthy lives.

The framework focuses on the key modifiable behaviours of unhealthy eating and physical inactivity, tobacco smoking and unsafe sun exposure.

The Prevention Strategic Framework 2017 to 2026 replaces the Health and Wellbeing Strategic Framework 2017 to 2026.

Annual performance review reports describe achievements against key indicators for the Health and Wellbeing Strategic Framework 2017 to 2026.
