Rapid Response: COVID-19 in a Residential Aged Care Facility: Overview and Flowchart

The Rapid Response - COVID-19 in a Residential Aged Care Facility: Overview and Flowchart was developed by a joint state/Commonwealth working group with expertise in disaster planning and management, public health and aged care.  It outlines the steps to mobilise and engage relevant partners to respond to COVID-19 in an aged care facility, and their respective roles and responsibilities.

The RACF Rapid Response will facilitate four core responses to a COVID-19 incident:

  1. Public health responses and advice and support for a residential aged care facility to control the infection
  2. Continuity of care (clinical) for residents, including ensuring they can receive healthcare in situ where appropriate e.g. through in-reach services
  3. Service continuity supports to ensure the facility continues to operate and provide an appropriate level of service to residents
  4. Communication strategies to ensure stakeholders, including the families of residents, are kept up to date
