Rapid Response: COVID-19 in a Residential Aged Care Facility: Overview and Flowchart
The Rapid Response - COVID-19 in a Residential Aged Care Facility: Overview and Flowchart was developed by a joint state/Commonwealth working group with expertise in disaster planning and management, public health and aged care. It outlines the steps to mobilise and engage relevant partners to respond to COVID-19 in an aged care facility, and their respective roles and responsibilities.
The RACF Rapid Response will facilitate four core responses to a COVID-19 incident:
- Public health responses and advice and support for a residential aged care facility to control the infection
- Continuity of care (clinical) for residents, including ensuring they can receive healthcare in situ where appropriate e.g. through in-reach services
- Service continuity supports to ensure the facility continues to operate and provide an appropriate level of service to residents
- Communication strategies to ensure stakeholders, including the families of residents, are kept up to date
