Townsville Health and Hospital Service

Important information regarding Tropical Cyclone Debbie

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service has activated its emergency management plans in anticipation of Tropical Cyclone Debbie crossing the coast within our area of responsibility.  These plans require us to limit the activity of the health services to ensure that we have capacity to deal with the anticipated impact.

All elective surgical procedures scheduled for Monday, 27 March and Tuesday, 28 March 2017 are postponed unless patients are specifically contacted by the hospital. Other patients will not be contacted individually.

Patients having endoscopy procedures including colonoscopies will proceed as normal on Monday, 27 March; however, these procedures will not proceed on Tuesday, 28 March.

Outpatient appointments will run as per normal on Monday, 27 March and have been postponed for Tuesday, 28 March.

All pathology services will operate as normal tomorrow, Monday March 27 2017.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service will aim to contact all patients with elective surgery procedures and outpatient appointments which have been postponed to reschedule by Friday 7 April 2017.

If you have not been contacted by close of business on April 7 please touch base with your specialist clinic area.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service has stood up its Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC).

  • Visiting hours

The visiting hours for all Townsville HHS units is 8 am to 8 pm. We welcome the families and carers of our patients as an important source of support, and as an extension of the healthcare team.

We do ask you to remember during visiting that many of our patients require rest for their recovery, so please be mindful of this when visiting. Some ward areas may also have rest times established, when the lights are dimmed and visitors are asked to keep noise to a minimum. Patients may request no visitors at times, and this will be respected.

Many complex processes and procedures happen during healthcare. There may be times when you are asked to leave the area for short periods as a result of this care being provided to our patients. If you are unsure about the best time for visiting, we encourage you to talk directly to staff on the ward.

If you would like to comment further on visiting practices at Townsville HHS please email the Person Centred Care unit.
