Documents held by the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) may be accessed through a variety of mechanisms. The most appropriate method of seeking access to information will depend on the type of information you are seeking.

Administrative access - accessing your health record
Access to a copy of your health record can generally be processed administratively. For details on how to apply for administrative access to health records, please refer to administrative access - health and other records.
Our publication scheme describes and categorises information routinely available. It has been developed to give the community greater access to information held by the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). For more information, please refer to publication scheme.
Apply for information
If you are seeking access to information not limited to your own personal information that is not available in our publication scheme, disclosure log or by administrative access schemes you should apply under the Right to Information Act 2009. If you are seeking access to documents limited to your own personal information, for example your own health records, you can apply under the administrative access - health and other records process.
With some exceptions, current and former employees are entitled to access their own employee records through an administrative process. For details on how to apply for administrative access to employee records, please refer to the administrative access - health and other records process.
Privacy and confidentiality
As a health agency, we are bound by statutory obligations contained in the Information Privacy Act 2009, the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 which all require strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality provisions.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and Body Worn Cameras (BWC) at Townsville Hospital and Health Service (Townsville HHS)
The Townsville HHS has a network of CCTV in operation throughout its facilities.
Health Security Department Officers at The Townsville Hospital, Kirwan Health Campus and Joyce Palmer Health Service on Palm Island additionally operate BWC devices. The footage collected from the CCTV network and BWC are used to monitor facilities for health, safety and security reasons.
Footage collected is used for the investigation of incidents and may be provided to authorities for the prosecution of alleged breaches of law in accordance with the terms of the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 and/or the Information Privacy Act 2009.
A person may request footage of them by making an application under the Right to Information Act 2009 or the Information Privacy Act 2009 to the Senior Release of Information Officer on 4433 1319 or TVS-TTH-ROI@health.qld.gov.au.
The Townsville HHS will not provide footage to any person or agency unless authorised or required by law.
The term Health Security Department Officers is used to encompass both Health Security Officers and Car Park Attendants.
