About the Release of Information Unit (ROI)

The Release of Information Unit is the first point of contact for enquiries about accessing your health record or the privacy and confidentiality of your health information.

The Release of Information Unit is authorised to process requests for access to clinical information, in accordance with a number of mechanisms including legislation and Queensland Health policy.  Requests for access to information may be received from parties including:

  • patients/clients/consumers
  • health professionals e.g. general practitioners
  • agents representing patients/clients/consumers e.g. solicitors
  • relatives of deceased patients/clients/consumers
  • insurance companies
  • WorkCover
  • police
  • third parties not acting directly for the patient

The Release of Information Unit also processes applications for access to and amendment of records under the Right to Information Act and Information Privacy Act.
