Cardiac Administration Services - The Townsville Hospital
The primary function of the Cardiac Administration Service is to provide and co-ordinate a diverse range of administrative services that support the delivery of client centred health care which encompasses the specialties of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Services provided include Referrals and Clinic Booking Services, Medical Typing, Ward Administration, Business Support Services and Administrative Management.
Referrals and Clinic Booking Services
Both elective admissions and outpatient referrals are processed by our booking team comprising Catheter Lab referrals – both inpatient and outpatient, review outpatient referrals, New outpatient referrals, Heart Failure outpatient referrals, Cardiac investigation outpatient referrals and cardiothoracic surgery outpatient referrals. Referrals to the Cardiology Service are managed by our CN Cardiology Case Manager. Elective admissions for Cardiothoracic Surgery are managed by our Cardiothoracic Clinical Case Manager (Nursing).
Medical Typing Services
Medical typists provide medical transcription services to the Cardiology Unit, Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit and the Heart Failure Unit.
Ward Administration Services
Ward Administration staff provide administrative and reception support to the Cardiac Catheter Lab under the direction of the Administration Team Leader. Additional Ward Administration staff provide administrative and reception support to the Coronary Care Unit and Medical Ward 3; these staff come under the direction of the Administration Team Leader for the Emergency Department.
The Executive Officer provides secretarial/executive support to the Nursing Director and Clinical Directors of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiology.
Business Support Services
Is responsible for the development and monitoring of financial processes within Cardiac Services, by utilising efficient use of resources to facilitate budget compliance and assist in the provision of cost effective, business focused, operational and strategic resource management advice and support to the Institute.
The team provides a focused administrative and billing service to specialist consultants, staff and patients who utilise the private/bulk billed services provided by the Institute of Cardiac Services.
Administration Managers within Cardiac Services co-ordinate, manage and lead a team of administrative officers that supports a client-focused service delivery in accordance with organisational goals, guidelines and relevant legislation within The Townsville Hospital.
They are also responsible for the leadership, co-ordination, representation and guidance of the administrative workforce within the Institute to support quality clinical service delivery in accordance with the Townsville Hospital & Health Service’s direction.
