Coronary Care Unit Townsville Hospital and Health Service

Overview

The Coronary Care Unit is a designated 14-bed unit that provides the full range of tertiary cardiac investigations for patients with acute cardiac conditions. The unit provides full cardiology support, including on-call 24-hour Angiography, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, Echocardiography, and Electrophysiology. Within the unit, 2 beds are allocated for investigation of chest pain with a mean length of stay less than 24hrs.

The Coronary Care Unit aims to provide a cardiac centre of excellence providing the highest standard of care by fostering partnerships with the patients, health disciplines and community agencies to support safe service provision. The CCU is statistically parable to metropolitan CCU across Australia. The unit is currently part of the Lighthouse Project, with strategies being implemented to improve heart outcomes in Indigenous Australians.
