Home Care Services

Overview

Home Care Services provide basic domestic assistance to about 700 clients within the Townsville area. Services are provided on a fortnightly basis, with provision for clients to receive a weekly service dependant on circumstances.

Holders of an Aged-Care Pension Concession Card - issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs and Centrelink, are eligible for an assessment to determine their need for domestic assistance through Home Care Services.  Services are provided on a priority basis subject to available funding.

Assessment is based on assisting frail older people and their carers to continue to live in the community, thereby reducing premature or inappropriate admission to a long-term residential facility.
There is no cost to the consumer for services provided.

Who is the service for ?

The primary client group is frail older people and their carers, who live in the community and whose capacity for independent living is at risk, or who are at risk of premature or inappropriate admission to long-term residential care.  Older people are people aged 65 years and over and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people aged 50 years and over.

Geographical areas of service

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service geographical reach includes Townsville, Ingham, Charters Towers and Palm Island.  Ingham, Charters Towers and Palm Island are independent Home Care Services and need to be contacted directly in order to access services in those areas.
