Medical and Cardiac Clinics - Townsville Hospital

Overview

The Cardiac and Medical Clinic welcome patients who have been referred from General Practitioners, Private Specialists and Inter/Intra-hospital Specialists from Northern and Far-Northern regions of Queensland.

Referrals to the Cardiac and Medical Clinics can be addressed to the following specialist under the appropriate clinic:

Referral procedure

A referral letter must be received from the relevant Specialist/Practitioner via the mail or by Facsimile before an appointment can be made.
Once received, the referral is categorised by the appropriate Specialist.

Category 1: Patient will be given an appointment within 30 days of receipt of the referral

Category 2: Patient will be given an appointment within 90 days of receipt of the referral

Category 3: Patient will be given an appointment after 365 days of receipt of the referral

We endeavour to have patients seen by the multi-disciplinary team within the categorised waiting times to provide optimal care for all patients. Patients are notified by mail of the appointment date.

Minimum Information Required

  • Patient details including contact address/telephone number and date of birth
  • Details of referring doctor or agency
  • Date of referral
  • Presenting problem including duration and severity of symptoms
  • Investigations and results to date
  • Medications
  • Past history
  • Relevant psycho-social issues
  • Referring doctor’s provider number and signature of providing doctor

Urgent referrals

The referring specialist should contact the On-call registrar to ensure the Specialist is notified of the referral. Contact HHS switch on +7 61 4433 1111.
