Research submission: Formatting and layout

Your journey through ethics and governance can be streamlined by mastering the formatting and layout of your cover letters and supporting documents.

A missing cover letter or a version number in a footer can create frustrating delays – without these vital components it is almost impossible to know which document is being referenced. This site is a guide to help you ace this fundamental part of your research preparation.

It is also important to ensure version numbers are on all documents as this provides a clear record of

  • How a document was created.
  • How a document was developed and changed over time (i.e. it provides clear version control of documents).

This version control  is particularly important for research protocols and participant information sheets and consent forms.
