Allocation of appointments for patients on the Specialist Outpatient Service waiting list is based on prioritisation according to clinical need and all appointments must be linked to a referral. The Service has implemented partial-booking processes in accordance with the Queensland Health Hospital Outpatient and Ambulatory Services Governance Policy.
Therefore, patients will receive their appointment letter approximately 4 weeks prior to their appointment.
When a patient fails to attend a "new" appointment, the patient will be removed from the waiting list and the referral and patient will be returned to the referring practitioner.
Patients failing to attend for a "review or follow-up" appointment may be offered an opportunity to rebook the appointment or may be removed from the appointment schedule. If the patient fails to attend the invited rebooked appointment, or fails to respond to a letter of offer to rebook, the patient will be removed from the appointment schedule and the referral and patient returned to the referring practitioner.
