About Logan

As a Metro South Hospital and Health Service employee based in Logan, it is likely that you will be providing health services from the Logan Hospital.

The Logan Hospital is a 338 bed facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ear nose and throat, paediatrics, respiratory medicine, neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, renal dialysis, anaesthetics, emergency medicine, specialist outpatient clinics, oral health, pathology, medical imaging, allied health, pharmacy, mental health and palliative care services to the large Logan region.

The Hospital is currently undergoing a $145 million expansion project which is due for completion around mid 2014. The project will include the expansion of the Childrens Service outpatient rooms, a new state of the art multidisciplinary simulation learning centre to support continued education of clinical staff, a new multi-storey building incorporating the co-location of the adult and childrens Emergency Department, a 24 bed Rehabilitation Unit, a new expanded Childrens inpatient unit and support services, a new adult day surgery unit and a 23 hour ward (for surgical procedures not suitable for day surgery, but patients can be discharged within 23 hours). In addition to service expansions, improved
carparking will be incorporated into this project.

The Hospital also had $3.2 million worth of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment installed recently.

The Yugambeh and the Jaggera Aboriginal people were the traditional owners of the land in the Logan region. Today, with a population of over 280,000 people, Logan is one of the most culturally diverse regions in Australia, with 185 different cultures represented in the community.

Logan is a young city, with thriving commercial, retail and manufacturing industries and offers a wide range of residential options from suburbs (including new estates) through to bushland acreage properties.

Logan is a picturesque city on the banks of the Logan River, conveniently located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast which are both easily accessible via the highway or rail network.

The city’s youth and cultural diversity is reflected through a vibrant café and dining scene and extensive range of farmers and food markets.

The attractions offered in the city of Logan are endless, with a number of retail centres (including Queensland’s only IKEA store, one of the largest in the world), museums and arts centres, golf courses and other sporting venues as well as a flourishing entertainment and theatre scene.

Those interested in discovering the region’s natural environment will be kept busy exploring bush and wetland areas, with over 1,000 parks and reserves across Logan. Boat and water lovers should follow the Logan River Tinnie Trail and those with an ecological and conservation interest must visit the Daisy Hill Conservation Park, a 435ha property that is home to a koala centre.
