Nursing at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Health Service District represents one of Australia's largest and most dynamic workforces. The Nursing Staff of the RBWH HSD are committed to Patient Centred Care that delivers the best possible health outcomes for our Patients. We believe that care delivered by the Expert nurse has a positive correlation with improved Patient Outcomes and therefore part of our philosophy is that we believe that each member of the Nursing profession is responsible and accountable for practice that derives from autonomous and shared decision making.

The Nursing Executive and management teams are committed to working with you in partnership in relation to your Professional Practice Development. It is through this Professional Practice Development that you will maintain your skills as an Expert nurse and enjoy the personal and professional satisfaction of increasing your knowledge, skills and confidence working within the Nursing profession.

Our Partnerships with the universities are collegial and strong. Our Centre for Clinical Nursing has a strong commitment to Education and Research and I personally encourage you to take full advantage of all of the Training and Development opportunities that we offer. It is important to me to ensure that our staff are provided with time and opportunity for Professional Development. Here at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Nursing Staff are valued employees and not simply members of a workforce.

As a Nursing service we are striving to create a range of opportunities for members of the Nursing Profession here at the RBWH. Along with our commitment to different strategies in relation to Marketing, Recruitment and Retention to build and develop a sustainable Nursing Workforce, the RBWH HSD also offers a great contemporary environment to work within.

The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Health Service district conducts a variety of staff based events, which includes a number of Staff Awards which recognise Achievements and Service Excellence.

I am proud to be part of one of the greatest tertiary referral hospitals in the southern hemisphere.

Kind Regards
Associate Professor Lesley Fleming
Executive Director Nursing Services
