What do we do?

The Cairns and Hinterland Oral Health Service provides high quality free general and emergency dental services to eligible clients.

Our goal is to help our clients to achieve and maintain optimal standards in Oral Health within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

Across our district, we deliver oral health services at our dedicated oral health facilities, hospitals, community outreach clinics and schools. Our area covers as far as Tully in the south, Croydon in the west and Mossman / Daintree in the north.

What can I expect as a patient?

Our service is client focused and our team goal is to meet the needs of eligible clients through general and specialist Oral Health services including but not limited to general Dentistry, Preventative Care, Oral Health Education, Specialist support.

Our professional team consists of Dentists, Orthodontist, Oral Health and Dental Therapists, Dental Assistants, Prosthetist, Technicians and Administration staff.

Who is eligible

Adults

Queensland residents and, where applicable, in receipt of benefits from a current Qld:  

  • Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) issued by the Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA)
  • Pension Concession Card (PCC) issued by Centrelink
  • Health Care Card (HCC)
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSC)
  • Queensland Seniors Card (QSC)

Children

  • 0-17 year olds

Families who are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule will be bulk-billed to Medicare. There will be no co-payment necessary or cost to families to complete your child’s treatment.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule covers a range of general services, but does not include orthodontics or cosmetic dental work.

Specialist Eligibility

Our dental team will discuss your options with you upon appointment for specialist services including orthodontics and oral surgery.

How do I access this service?

Call for an appointment and arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time with your concession card.

Please call the call centre and they will arrange an appointment for you

My 16 year old child, doesn’t attend school. Are they eligible for free treatment?
Yes. Please contact our call centre and our staff will arrange an appointment at a convenient location for you

 My child needs a check-up, how do I book them in?
Please call the call centre and they will go through the consent process, the school service nearest to you and how to book an appointment
