The project is a collaboration between, Darling Downs Health and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council.

This project will support community members to become accredited in Indigenous Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (IASIST) and safeTALK. Enabling then to provide training to other Cherbourg residents and residents of surrounding areas.

The project aims to empower the community’s control over how and when they deliver training.

By training community members in suicide prevention, the knowledge and skills for a community led response to suicide is retained and reinforced from within. These types of community led training programs have also been shown to increase the capacity of communities to respond to suicide risk. They’ve also shown that, when implemented, people are more likely to seek help for suicide-related issues.

This project has been made possible by the Rural Doctors Foundation.
