Queensland Cardiology Advanced Training Pathway
Advanced training in Cardiology in Queensland is offered through a centralised recruitment process. This is a statewide process and is supported by the Cardiology Directors of the Queensland tertiary hospitals with advanced training accredited position/s.
The Cardiology Registrar is an advanced trainee of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). The Registrar provides inpatient and outpatient medical services within the Department of Cardiology and a consultative service to other departments. It is intended that the Registrar will maximise their professional development, with a view to completing specialist training according to the guidelines of the RACP and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and expected that the Registrar will be involved in the professional development of junior medical staff.
This position provides a high quality service within the Hospital and Health Service and to participate, if requested, in the provision of services in Clinical Service Networks (CSN) in the Northern, Southern or Central Zones of Queensland Health.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for an advanced training position, applicants must either be:
- a current advanced trainee in Cardiology
OR
- new applicant
- registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- completed the FRACP clinical examination (both written and practical) or sitting the exam or successfully completed the FRACP clinical examination and
- have an interest in Cardiology
Other requirements
Successful applicants are supported through a 3 year training program. Appointees may be required to:
- undertake a research project
- assist in the provision of an after-hours roster
- rotate between more than 1 hospital or department to complete part of their training

Interview, selection and offer dates
The recruitment and selection process will comply with relevant Queensland Health human resource policies including the principles of equal employment opportunity. All applications to the pathway will be reviewed by the Oversight Committee. The committee uses assessment criteria to determine eligibility and suitability of applicants for appointment to pathway positions within Queensland Health.
The selection process will be a panel interview with the Directors (or delegates) of each facility. Positions will be allocated primarily according to ranking during interview and other mitigating circumstances.
