We offer advanced training with a unique opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary infectious diseases practice.
The diverse positions we have across the state mean you may gain experience in:
- tropical and community-acquired infection
- antimicrobial stewardship
- quaternary hospital services
- solid organ and stem cell transplant infections
- outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy
- blood-borne-virus management
- sexual health
- infection control.
We have a statewide approach to recruitment and rotation so you’ll enjoy a rounded and complete training experience.
You’ll be supported with a range of local educational events including regular statewide meetings.
Our previous advanced trainees have gone on to occupy prominent clinical, educational and research positions in Australia and around the world.
Eligibility
To apply for an advanced training position you must:
- hold current general medical registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- have satisfactorily completed basic training
- have successfully complete the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) written examination and have passed or are planning to sit the clinical examination.
Applying
You can apply for the Queensland Infectious Diseases Advanced Training Program when you apply for the RMO campaign. Applications for the campaign are open Monday 5 June to Monday 3 July 2023. We won’t accept late applications.
To be eligible for a position you need to provide details for 2 referees and your referees will have to upload reports. If they don’t, you won’t be eligible for a position.

There will be an information session held on Tuesday 6th June at 4pm via Teams, where training sites will provide a short presentation and candidates will be able to ask questions.

Interview and selection
The selection process will be a panel interview with the Directors or their delegates of each facility. Positions are allocated primarily according to ranking during interviews and other mitigating circumstances.
We'll consider applications where you're unable to do a rotation in a specific hospital, but we can't guarantee training in one particular area.
