Hospital and Health Service profiles

Toowoomba Hospital

icon In 2013, 78 per cent of patients who presented at the emergency department were admitted, discharged or transferred within four hours, exceeding the National Emergency Access Target of 77 per cent. In this time, the emergency department saw almost 46,000 presentations.
icon A $2 million expansion of the endoscopy unit will be undertaken—it will double existing capacity and free up other operating theatres so more complex surgery can be performed.
icon By 31 December 2013 the hospital's surgical services achieved their goal of having all patients on the elective surgery waiting list treated within the clinically recommended timeframes. This achievement has continued in 2014.
icon Work is progressing well to reduce waiting times on the specialist outpatients' waiting list. Between July 2013 and January 2014 the waiting list was cut by one-third thanks to ongoing efforts of medical and nursing staff.
icon Design planning is underway for a new kitchen worth $9.76 million. Construction is expected to be completed by 2015.
icon The hospital is undergoing a $2.2 million external makeover as part of the Queensland Government's Backlog remedial maintenance program. In addition to painting, this will involve timber, cladding and roofing repairs where necessary.
