Weipa Integrated Health Service Profile

icon Weipa is a multipurpose health service facility providing 24-hour inpatient, outpatient, residential aged care, emergency and primary healthcare services.
icon Weipa offers clinic facilities from Monday to Friday, including a visiting team of specialists.
icon A community services team provides access to social work, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander liaison and support, dietetics, physiotherapy, diabetics education, child health, Indigenous health assessments, antenatal services and nurse-led medical officer clinics.
icon Additional services include palliative care, surgical and medical services, respite care, medical imaging, chronic disease management, child and maternal health, and dental.
icon Weipa hosts a suite of regular visiting medical, community and allied health clinics, including mental health, alcohol and drug services, obstetrics and gynaecology, optometrist, paediatrics, orthopaedics, psychology, thoracic, and theatre, including ear nose and throat, ophthalmology, dental and scopes.
icon The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of Mapoon and Napranum (Malakoola) are in the catchment and receive services from the Weipa.
icon Weipa has a service goal to provide wellness and illness services, and positive lifestyles programs with a focus on Queensland Health's priority area of chronic disease management aimed at maintaining the wellbeing of the community as a whole and specifically promoting the independence of older clients.
icon A new tele-chemotherapy program commenced at Cooktown, Weipa and Thursday Island. Since early 2015, low risk cancer patients no longer need to travel to Cairns for chemotherapy. Nurses can now administer chemotherapy locally while being guided via video link by medical oncologists and chemotherapy nurses in Cairns.
icon Telehealth services are available throughout the HHS. This service provides residents access to specialist services without having to leave their local community.
