Saibai Island Primary Health Care Centre
![]() | Saibai Island forms part of the Top Western cluster of islands situated in the northern region of the Torres Strait. Saibai has a population of approximately 465 people. Boigu and Dauan Islands are close neighbours and the border villages of Papua New Guinea are only a few kilometres away. |
![]() | The Saibai Community Health Centre is managed by a small Primary Health Care team consisting of the Remote Area Nurses, Indigenous health workers and ancillary staff. |
![]() | Allied Health outreach teams (podiatry, dietician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, diabetes educator) visit the island regularly and midwives also attended Saibai on an as-needed basis for antenatal checks. |
![]() | The Commonwealth-funded program The National Partnership Agreement (PA) for the Torres Strait Islander Health Protection Strategy – Saibai Island Health Clinic was established in 2014 and is hosted by the Torres and Cape HHS. Its objective is to raise awareness of and address the burden of multiple communicable and non-communicable diseases among Saibai Island community members and strengthen the capacity of health care providers to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach to reducing health disparities in the region. |
![]() | Financial assistance is available through the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme to eligible patients who need to travel to other hospitals for procedures and tests not available locally. |
![]() | Telehealth services are available for linking with other facilities via video-conference for patients. |
