What is the GPSI program?

The Queensland Government’s Specialist Outpatient Strategy – Improving the Patient Journey committed $30.0 million over three years to explore a range of service delivery models that can be delivered to patients in a timely and cost-effective manner and to deliver the New Models of Care project.

The GP with a Special Interest (GPSI) Program is funded under the New Models of Care. GPSIs are employed in the SCHHS across 12 specialties. The GP Liaison Unit is responsible for recruiting and managing the GPSIs, as well as the ongoing management of the GPSI Program.

Benefits

  • GPSIs have a significant impact on wait list management
  • GPSIs can increase appropriate discharge of patients back to their regular GP, assisting with wait list management
  • They facilitate collegiate contact between primary and secondary/tertiary care

For more information about the GPSI program or to submit an expression of interest please contact the GP Liaison Unit.
