Getting around

Digital information displays are located in the main and southern entrances, near the Level 1 entry and in the Adem Crosby Centre. The touchscreen displays provide clear directions to rooms and departments, and will lower to wheelchair height.

No smoking

For the health of staff, patients and visitors, smoking is prohibited inside, within the grounds, and for 5m beyond the boundary of all facilities of the SCHHS, including buildings and motor vehicles. This includes SCUH. Penalties apply.

Clinic appointments

Patients can check in for a clinic by scanning their appointment letter or Medicare card at one of 10 kiosks throughout SCUH. The kiosks will print a ticket with appointment details, time and location. Annunciator screens in waiting areas display ticket numbers when the clinic is ready for a patient.


SCUH has food outlets on the ground floor, level 1 and at the Hub auditorium. Vending machines with snacks and drinks are located throughout the hospital. Refer to the food and retail map overleaf for details.


Several retail outlets, including a community pharmacy, florist and convenience store are located on the ground floor and are open during normal business hours. Refer to the food and retail map for details.

Spiritual care centre

SCUH’s spiritual care centre, located on ground level near the southern entrance, is open to patients, visitors and staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The chaplaincy service operates from 8.00am-4.00pm Mon-Fri with after-hours service as required.


Televisions are mounted at each bed for personal viewing in most wards. Services are free and offer a range of commercial channels, in-house education channels and spiritual care centre programs. Televisions are also located in waiting areas.

Visiting hours

General wards visiting hours are from 11.00am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 8.00pm. Visiting hours may vary between wards. Set visiting hours allow for rest and adequate treatment of patients.


Hospital volunteers can assist patients and visitors with directions, information and by arranging mobility aids. Volunteers are stationed in the lounge located on the car park side of the level 1 link bridge; at the level 1 entry area; and in the main entry.


Wishlist is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to fundraising for the needs of the SCHHS. The Wishlist office is located in the Lakeside Building adjacent to the ground level main entry.


A free WiFi service is available at SCUH for patients, their families and visitors.
