Living in Wide Bay

Living in Wide Bay

Not only are Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service facilities a great place work, but we’re also situated in a region that offers one of the best lifestyles in Australia.

Arguably one of the most diverse and beautiful regions in Queensland, Wide Bay is known for its relaxed, family-friendly lifestyle. The region incorporates the North Burnett, Bundaberg and Fraser Coast local government areas, as well as part of the Gladstone local government area (Miriam Vale).

Attractions such as the World Heritage-listed Fraser Island and the Southern Great Barrier Reef cement the coastal lure of the region, but there's also plenty to see inland, including vibrant rural centres, scenic farming land, rugged mountain ranges and peaceful national parks.

The endless stretches of beaches, lakes, rivers and dams provide the perfect waterside locations for camping, swimming, boating, fishing and water sports. Wide Bay is also made up of hundreds of kilometres of back roads and tracks, perfect for horse riding, trailbikes and four-wheel driving.

Agriculture plays a huge role in the local economy, located in the heart of a rich sugar and horticultural belt, with most towns surrounded by oceans of green – with sugar cane, avocados, macadamias, ginger and a range of vegetables among the most popular crops.

With its wide open spaces, subtropical temperatures and strong community spirit, you’re sure to feel right at home in Wide Bay.

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service has hospitals and rural facilities in Biggenden, Bundaberg, Childers, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Gin Gin, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Monto, Mount Perry and Mundubbera.
