Health Consumers Queensland
Health Consumers Queensland (HCQ) comprises a Ministerial Consumer Advisory Committee and Secretariat supported by Queensland Health. It has been established to contribute to the continued development and reform of health systems and services in Queensland, by providing the Minister for Health with information and advice from a consumer (patient) perspective and by supporting and promoting consumer engagement and advocacy. HCQ aims to strengthen the consumer perspective in health services policy, systems and service reform and improvement. In acting as your voice in health, HCQ supports consumer, community and patient involvement in all aspects and stages of their individual and collective health care journey.
Consumer and Community Engagement Project
Health Consumers Queensland (HCQ) is working with Health Service Districts (Districts) as they transition to Local Health and Hospital Networks (LHHN's) to support the development of 17 Consumer and Community Engagement Strategies by the Districts. The strategy for each LHHN will be completed within 6 months of transition.
There will be no one size fits all approach to the development of the Consumer and Community Engagement Strategies. Rather each Strategy should reflect the population and characteristics of a particular District and be designed to promote best practice and meaningful engagement. This will ensure consumers and the broader community have an ongoing voice in health governance and planning.
To support this work, HCQ has developed the Consumer and Community Engagement Framework (PDF 387kb). The Framework provides a consistent and overarching structure to guide and support LHHNs in the development of effective strategies.
Secretariat
A small Secretariat provides support for Health Consumers Queensland's (HCQ) Advisory Committee. The Secretariat is supported by Queensland Health and comprises a Director, three Senior Policy Officers, and a Project Support Officer.
