Ebola virus disease (EVD)

Healthcare professionals are at the forefront of the fight against infectious diseases like the Ebola virus disease (EVD) which is one of the causes of viral haemorrhagic fever syndromes.

Control guidelines

The Queensland Health Guidelines for Public Health Units focus on managing the spread of quarantinable viral haemorrhagic fevers and include information about incubation, transmission, period of communicability, management of suspected cases and notification criteria and procedures. 

The Queensland Ebola virus disease management plan (PDF, 770KB) is the overarching guiding document for managing this disease in Queensland and is supported by a suite of guidelines and forms listed below.

Clinical guidelines and resources

These resources include guidelines, forms and resources for clinical staff and healthcare professionals including but not limited to Hospital and Health Services, Pathology Queensland, private hospitals, general practices and private pathology services.

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the safe management of an Ebola virus disease case is being made available for Queensland Health facilities.

A video on the recommended procedures and use of PPE (gown option) when treating suspected and confirmed EVD cases in Queensland is now available on QHEPS (link accessible only on Queensland Health network).
