Clinical Excellence Division
Clinical pathways are standardised, evidence-based multidisciplinary management plans, which identify an appropriate sequence of clinical interventions, timeframes, milestones and expected outcomes for an homogenous patient group (Queensland Health Clinical Pathways Board definition 2002).
Clinical pathways aim to
- support the implementation of evidence-based practice
- improve clinical processes by reducing risk
- reduce duplication through the use of a standardised tool
- reduce variation in health service process delivery.
The Clinical Excellence Division has developed the following statewide clinical pathways. These were originally identified as priorities in the 'top 10' diagnosis-related groups (DRG) in orthopaedics, maternity and surgery. New statewide pathways will be developed in terms of high volume and high cost.
