Networked oral health services

Our networked oral health service model supports rural and remote communities by giving dental professionals the opportunity to do rotations in remote areas across Queensland. This allows patients to access care closer to home and helps us to recruit staff and sustain services in rural and remote areas.

Early career dental practitioner program

Our early career program helps new graduates gain skills and experience for a long term career in the public dental service. Graduates do clinical rotations and benefit from mentoring, peer support and professional development during their first year of work.

Students in dentistry program

Undergraduate students can do paid work with us while they study dentistry or oral health therapy. Our student roles open up career opportunities in the public service. Experienced members of our dental team mentor and supervise all students in the program.

Fluoride varnish training program

Our fluoride varnish program was developed with TAFE Queensland and includes training for dental assistants to apply fluoride varnish to teeth. It covers legal and regulatory requirements and prepares them to apply for approval to treat patients under the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 (Qld). The program will help to improve access to the benefits of fluoride in more vulnerable communities.

First Nations dental assistant traineeship program

Our First Nations traineeship program helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples achieve formal qualifications in dental assisting. Trainees study online and get practical experience to prepare them for work in their local community. The program is helping to grow our First Nations workforce and the cultural capability of public dental services.
