Paying your bill

If you have had treatment at a public hospital and have been sent a bill for pathology testing, you may be wondering why. You will be sent a pathology bill when:

  • you are under the care of a private healthcare professional in a public hospital, and
  • the tests ordered are not eligible for a Medicare rebate.

For more information about Medicare rebates contact Medicare.

Two ways to pay

There are two ways to pay your bill. You may choose to pay your bill first and then claim your rebate from Medicare, or you may make a claim to Medicare first.

Find out more about claiming from Medicare.

If you need help with your payment, or if you have a query, please contact us.

Option 1: Pay first

Make your payment directly to HSQ Pathology Queensland using any of the payment options shown below, then claim from Medicare.

If these services were provided while you were in hospital, a portion of the fee is claimable from Medicare, and the balance may be claimable from your private health insurer.

Option 2: Claim first

Claim first from Medicare.

Medicare will send you a cheque which you can then send to HSQ Pathology Queensland together with the payment advice and any additional amount owing. The payment advice can be found at the bottom of the Medicare statement of benefit.
