About the service

The Rockhampton residential rehabilitation and withdrawal service opened in December 2021.

It offers specialist alcohol and other drug treatment and support with priority to people in the Central Queensland region. Referrals from surrounding areas are based on client readiness and bed availability. The service includes up to 42 places for residential treatment.

Site name

The site carries a locally relevant traditional name Binbi Yadubay, which means healthy beginnings. It’s pronounced as 'bine-be-ya-do-bay'. It’s in the language of the Darumbal peoples, the traditional owners of the land where the service is. We thank the Darumbal Elders for giving us permission to use the name.

Why it’s important

Residential alcohol and other drug services are part of a range of treatment options for people who are seeking help with problematic substance use.

The service helps support existing alcohol and other drug treatment services across Central Queensland and surrounding areas. It also:

  • improves local access to specialist services, and helps people get treatment closer to home
  • meets community needs and demand for alcohol and other drug treatment services.

Who it’s for

A range of services are offered for:

  • adults over 18 years
  • young people from 12 to 21 years
  • parents and families with children under 10 years.

Attendance in the service is voluntary. It’s available to people who are ready and want to make positive changes to their alcohol and other drug use.

Location

Binbi Yadubay is located in Parkhurst (North Rockhampton), Qld 4702.

Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service owns the land and buildings.

Family units

The 2 family units provide a safe and supportive environment for parents who want to get treatment for problematic alcohol and other drug use. It can be difficult for parents to get treatment due to parenting or carer responsibilities. The family units allow parents to bring their children to the service while getting treatment. Children up to 10 years of age can stay with their family. Children are also provided care and support by qualified staff.

Treatment and support service for young people

The day treatment and support service, offered from a separate location in Rockhampton, is for young people from 12 to 21 years. It offers young people:

  • in-person counselling
  • care planning
  • group programs
  • phone and online support.

The service also has a drop-in ‘chill-out zone’ for young people to use where they can talk to staff and get support. Find out more about the youth support service.
