2024–2025 Annual Report
The third annual report from the independent Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board (Review Board) in Queensland details:
- activity from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025
- the Review Board’s reflections drawn from completed request reviews; consumer and practitioner feedback; and engagement with voluntary assisted dying services, authorised practitioners and the Queensland Voluntary Assisted Dying Support and Pharmacy Service.
The report shows that from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025:
- 2039 people had a first assessment to assess their eligibility to access voluntary assisted dying
- 1745 people were assessed as eligible
- 1292 people were supplied with a voluntary assisted dying substance
- 1072 people died following administration of a voluntary assisted dying substance.
The report provides details about who is accessing voluntary assisted dying:
- people were aged between 18 – 101 and the median age was 75
- 55% of people were male
- 51% of people lived in regional, rural or remote parts of the state
- 76% of people had a cancer diagnosis.
