Townsville University Hospital Expansion

The Townsville University Hospital Expansion is a major investment in the future of healthcare for Townsville and north Queensland.
This major project will deliver at least 165 new overnight beds, expanded emergency and critical care services, satellite medical imaging facilities, an upgraded coronary care unit and a new multi-storey carpark with more than 1,000 parking spaces.
Once complete, the expansion will significantly increase the hospital's capacity, improve patient flow, support contemporary models of care, and help attract and retain the skilled workforce needed to care for our growing community.
Preparing for the expansion – Enabling works
Enabling works are now underway at the front of the hospital to prepare the Townsville University Hospital campus for the future expansion.
While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, some works will temporarily impact access, traffic, parking, pick-up and drop-off arrangements, and wayfinding around the hospital.
Importantly, Townsville University Hospital will remain open and continue to provide safe, high-quality care throughout construction.
The project team is working closely with patients, staff and community advisory groups to help shape access arrangements, wayfinding and communications throughout the project.
