The Queensland Government is committed to supporting women and girls to achieve their full health potential through the Queensland Women and Girls’ Health Strategy 2032 (PDF 8522 kB).

Queensland Health led an extensive consultation and engagement process from late 2022 to inform the development of the Strategy. This included targeted consultation sessions with women and girls, engagement with key stakeholders, a commissioned evidence review, online surveys, and more.

Consultation and engagement are vital to deliver better health and wellbeing for Queensland women and girls, particularly for priority communities.

Queensland Health thanks the Queenslanders who shared their unique experiences and suggestions on how to improve the health of women and girls.

Evidence Review: Queensland Women and Girls’ Health

In early 2023, Queensland Health commissioned an evidence review of data available on the health of Queensland women and girls. This review provided a quantitative evidence base to inform development of the new Strategy. This research was led by Professor Gita Mishra and colleagues at the Australian Women and Girls’ Health Research Centre at The University of Queensland.

Health Consumers Queensland: Engagement with the Strategy

In late 2022, Queensland Health partnered with Health Consumers Queensland to hear directly from Queensland women and girls. We heard from nearly 200 health consumers. Consultation included Kitchen Table Discussions, Yarning Circles and sessions with women in custody. The sessions sought to reach women of all ages, including from priority communities.

2023 Consultation Draft and Survey

Queensland Health released a consultation draft of the Strategy for public review and feedback in September 2023. The consultation draft was informed by evidence and extensive consultation to date.

A short online survey received more than 10,000 responses from Queenslanders. Most survey respondents identified as women and girls, with a small number of responses received from people who identify as a man/boy or non-binary. Some respondents preferred to be identified by another term, preferred not to answer or left this question blank.

All respondents shared their views, experiences and suggestions on how to improve the health of women and girls. Queensland Health also received direct feedback on the consultation draft from individuals and organisations.

2022 Consultation Paper

An initial consultation paper was made publicly available in late 2022. You can review the Queensland women's health strategy consultation paper in full (PDF 1991 kB).

An easy to read version (PDF 939 kB) and a one-page summary (PDF 127 kB) of the consultation paper were also made available.

The initial consultation paper was used to guide face-to-face and online targeted consultation sessions with women, girls and stakeholders throughout Queensland and attracted 41 written submissions.
