Nutrition and carbohydrates

The Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute have a Carbohydrate counting in exchanges fact sheet and a Carbohydrates and Glycaemic Index (GI) fact sheet. These will help your patients use food labels and tools to count carbohydrates, and how to identify non-carbohydrate foods.

Diabetes Australia has compiled a list of mobile apps to support carbohydrate counting and blood glucose monitoring, tailored to the Australian market. They provide users with real-time data, personalised insights and, in some cases, integration with glucose meters and wearable devices to support more convenient and proactive diabetes self-management.

Pregnancy and diabetes

We also have pregnancy planning information for women with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Pregnancy guidance for women with type 1 diabetes

Breakthrough T1D has created a diabetes pregnancy guide especially for those living with T1D. The guide includes sections on:

  • preparing for pregnancy with T1D
  • care, tests and technology throughout pregnancy
  • birth, early parenthood and lived experience stories.
