About the Chief Medical Officer

Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr Catherine McDougall, is the professional lead for medicine.

She provides advice and expertise on the direction of statewide medical services in Queensland, including supporting medical officers at every stage of their careers.

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer also includes Forensic Medicine Queensland and the Voluntary Assisted Dying program areas.

Our strategic priorities and initiatives to build, strengthen and grow Queensland's medical workforce are outlined in our Medical Practitioner Workforce Plan for Queensland.

Responsibilities and functions

  • Providing statewide strategic leadership and advice on medical professionalism
  • Advising on excellence in clinical performance and medial clinical governance
  • Supporting the growth and development of the medical workforce to meet current and future needs
  • Championing medical officer wellbeing
  • Supporting the development of policies and programs that strengthen the medical workforce
