Urgent care
For patients requiring urgent assessment and interventions, call Triple Zero (000) or direct to the nearest emergency department.
QuEDS are a statewide service providing assessment and treatment for adults, their families and supports affected by eating disorders, as well as consultation, support and education for health professionals. We are committed to developing and improving the quality of services for Queenslanders affected by eating disorders, enabling better access to a range of treatment options.
Specialist services may also be available in your local area.
Care and treatment for young people under 18 years old is available through Children's Health Queensland.
Adult assessment and treatment recommendations service
Our clinic provides assessment, diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations for referring GPs. Access to this service is via GP referral to the Outpatient Specialist Assessment Clinic. Assessments are held at the Spring Hill Community Mental Health Centre, or through Telehealth for patients outside of Brisbane.
Secondary consultation service
Our consultation services team is available to offer support and best practice treatment advice for adult eating disorder management. We provide resources and advice for behavioural and nutritional support, as well as medical management and treatment planning. This is available to all clinicians statewide via videoconference.
Inpatients should be referred to their local Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team before contacting QuEDS consultation services.
Statewide specialist eating disorder beds
To arrange access to publicly-funded specialist beds at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Mental Health and Wandi Nerida residential facility please contact 07 3114 0809 or email QuEDSConsultationServices@health.qld.gov.au to request a referral form (not available online).
Education and training
We offer a range of training opportunities (in person, online or hybrid) to up-skill health professionals to increase capacity and confidence in treating people experiencing eating disorders, including:
- training days on inpatient and community care
- evidence-based outpatient therapies for adults
- management in primary care
- discipline-specific or bespoke training on request.
QuEDS education and training topics offered can include:
- identification of symptomatology
- referral pathways
- evidence-based therapies
- community mental health/case management
- mental health inpatient care
- medical inpatient care
- psychological care
- nursing care
- dietetic care
- primary care
- family information and support program (general)
- family skills-based program.

QuEDS outpatient treatment services (for 18 years and over)
QuEDS offers a range of publicly funded time-limited and evidence-based therapeutic eating disorder treatments for individuals and groups. Access to this service is via the Outpatient Specialist Assessment Clinic. Treatment can include family/carer support and dietetic information. Participants are required to see their GP regularly for medical monitoring throughout treatment.
QuEDS are unable to provide case management or primary care and all treatment is voluntary.

Dedicated eating disorder multidisciplinary specialist services for patients living in the below Hospital and Health Services (HHS) catchments.
