Surgical procedures
Queensland Tissue Bank supplies a range of different tissue types that can be used in procedures including:
- ocular tissue - cornea and sclera
- musculoskeletal tissue - long bones, cancellous bone blocks, demineralised bone matrix, tendons and meniscus
- dermatological tissue - skin (multiple sizes)
- cardiovascular tissue - valves, conduits, and patches.
The majority of tissue is generously donated by the families of Australians who have recently passed away in hospital.
We also accept donations from living patients as part of the Living Donor Program, for example, femoral heads removed during hip surgery.
Donated tissues are often used in surgeries to repair joints or bones after injury or tumour removal, spinal procedures, burns, visual issues or heart problems.
Tissue is prepared at our TGA-licensed facility at Coopers Plains. We also have capability to customise tissue to ensure it meets specific surgical needs.
