The Cunningham Centre has partnered with the First Nations COVID-19 Response Team to provide online and face-to-face training specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, Health Practitioners and Indigenous Health Workers to assist vaccination teams with the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccination rollout in Queensland. This is in accordance with the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 Emergency Order Public Health Emergency – Pandemic Response to Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). In addition, a module for influenza vaccination is also available.
The First Nations COVID-19 vaccination training is to assist vaccination team members that are involved in the Australian SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccination clinics.
The online modules will provide:
an overview of the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia and immunisation
the importance of vaccination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
The workshop will provide an overview of:
vaccines
preparing for vaccination
how to administer vaccines
post vaccination care.
This training is to complement the Australian Government COVID-19 vaccination training program. Additional telephone support for these training modules can be arranged with the 13HEALTH Deadly Triage nurses by email request to: AandTSItriagenurses@health.qld.gov.au.
The online modules can be completed by anyone who is interested in working in a COVID-19 vaccination team during the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccination rollout.
The combination of online modules and face-to-face workshops are open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, Health Practitioners and Indigenous Health Workers working within their service vaccination team during the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccination rollout.
There are no admission requirements for the online modules.
To be enrolled in a face-to-face workshop you must be working as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker, Health Practitioner or Indigenous Health Worker.
To complete the online modules, access to a reliable internet connection (using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome) and a computer or laptop is required.
On completion of the online modules a statement of completion will be electronically generated.
After attending a face-to-face workshop, a statement of attendance will be emailed to you.
Participation in the First Nations COVID-19 vaccination training may contribute to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for the purposes of registration and/or professional association membership. Please refer to the specific CPD requirements of your registration board and/or professional association to confirm.
Do I have to do the workshop if I only want to do the online modules?
No, you can complete the online modules independently of the workshop for your own professional development.
Can I do the online module if I'm not an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker or Health Practitioner or Indigenous Health Worker?
Yes, you can complete the online modules if you are supporting the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccination rollout.
Can I do the workshop if I don't complete the online modules?
It is preferred that you complete the online modules prior to attending a workshop but it is not compulsory.
Can I do the workshop if I don't meet the criteria outlined?
It is preferred that you are working as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker or Health Practitioner or Indigenous Health Worker to attend a workshop. Please contact the Cunningham Centre if you have any queries about attending a workshop.
Will the completion of this course allow me to be an Immunisation Program Nurse?
No, only Registered Nurses can become an Immunisation Program Nurse.
