Course outline

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely administer vaccines as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker or health practitioner.

This course is nationally accredited by Health Education Services Australia (HESA) and aligns to the National Immunisation Education Framework for Health Professionals.

The course covers 4 learning areas:

  • immunisation and public health
  • legislation and professional practice
  • immunisation and the immune system
  • vaccination procedures.

You will be required to complete a minimum 40 hour clinical placement in an immunisation setting within your workplace/health service.

Careers and outcomes

You will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and 130 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours upon successful completion of the course.

You will be eligible for authorisation to administer vaccines under the Extended Practice Authority (EPA) relevant to your role.

Admission criteria

You must be employed as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker or health practitioner to apply for this course.

Apply

Entry into this course is by an application and selection process. You will be required to complete an application form. You will then be provided with:

  • a Preceptor nomination form for your nominated Preceptor/s to complete
  • a Clinical placement workplace approval form for your line manager to complete.

Your completed forms will be assessed by our team and you will receive an offer with a commencement date if successful.

You will need to upload supporting documents as part of your application:

  1. Current resume
  2. Letter of support from your nominated workplace Preceptor
  3. Evidence
    • certified evidence of official name change (if applicable)
    • For health practitioners
      • current license to practice as a registered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner in Australia
    • For health workers
