Metro South Hospital and Health Service midwife Jodi Bun has celebrated 40 years of service, which includes 30 years at Logan Hospital.
After caring for thousands of women and families over 40 years, Metro South’s foundational Midwifery Educator Jodi Bunn is now helping shape future generations of midwives with her warmth, support and positive energy.
Jodi has been recognised for four incredible decades in healthcare, including 30 years at Logan Hospital where she has seen the campus grow from one building to (almost) four!
For Jodi, the impact she has on the lives of others is her favourite part of her job.
“We touch the lives of so many patients, not just patients but colleagues too,” she said.
“I have worked with some amazing nurses and midwives during my career.”
Jodi began as a student nurse at Maryborough Hospital before moving to Brisbane to complete her training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. After working in medical nursing, she followed her passion into midwifery at the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Mater.
In 1996, she joined Logan Hospital, where colleagues quickly came to know her for her warmth, support, and positive energy. Her ability to work hard while creating a sense of fun and connection left a lasting impression, recognised again at her recent service milestone.
In 2000, Jodi moved into education with the Nursing and Midwifery Professional Development Unit as a Clinical Facilitator. Just one year later, she became Metro South’s foundational Midwifery Educator.
Since then, Jodi has been a strong advocate for midwives, supporting their development and ensuring their voices are heard. In her current role she has assisted thousands of graduates and student midwives to develop their knowledge and skills. She has seen the numbers increase of initially two midwifery students to currently over 100.
Jodi was also the midwifery educator for Logan and Redland Hospital for over five years providing education and training for over 300 staff across the two sites.
As she reflects on her career, Jodi’s advice is simple.
“Take any opportunity that comes your way,” she said.
“Every opportunity is a learning opportunity.
“I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to be a Midwifery Unit Manager, Quality Manager as well as been involved in a project for clinical pathways and Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) accreditation.”
Congratulations Jodi on an extraordinary career. The Logan Beaudesert Health Service NMPDU team is proud to celebrate your contribution and the legacy you leave behind.
