Establishing good oral hygiene and dietary habits have been proven to be essential to achieving and maintaining, overall physical and emotional well-being throughout life.

Oral Health can affect both physical and emotional well-being as it can impact upon appearance, interpersonal relations, diet, nutrition and speech.

In addition disease of the mouth can affect the rest of the body and is a contributing factor to a number of secondary conditions.

Water fluoridation

The Queensland Government is committed to improving the oral health of Queenslanders. Tooth decay has a significant impact on health and wellbeing and results in high personal and community costs. Tooth decay is largely preventable.

The Queensland Government tries to reduce tooth decay by:

  • improving access to dental care
  • making healthy food choices the easy choice
  • increasing awareness about the importance of tooth brushing, fluoride toothpaste and regular dental check-ups
  • allocating funding to help councils introduce water fluoridation.
