The Time to Work Employment Service (TWES) ended in most prisons on 30 June 2024. It’ll continue in some remote areas until 30 June 2025.

In 2025 a new program will start in some locations to help First Nations people move into employment and training when they leave prison. Learn more about the Reconnection, Employment and Learning (REAL) program on the Australian Government website.

About the program

The Time to Work Employment Service (TWES) is an Australian Government program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners. It helps prisoners prepare for and find work before they leave prison.

Under our Memorandum of Understanding with the Australian Government and Corrective Services, we’re only able to share prisoner health information with contracted employment service providers with their consent. The release of this information falls under section 144 of the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011.

What we can share

We only share health information about limitations or barriers to employment.

This might include:

  • medical conditions, symptoms and their impacts
  • treatments
  • future health prospects.

We don't share full medical records.

How we share information

Our hospital and health services manage all information requests.

We record health information and consent in the TWES medical summary (DOCX 516 kB) and keep a copy in each person's medical record.

If you’d like more information, email prisonerhealth@health.qld.gov.au.
