Understanding motor neurone disease

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that affects the nerve cells (motor neurons) responsible for controlling movement. As these neurons deteriorate, muscles gradually weaken leading to loss of mobility, speech, swallowing, and eventually breathing.

There’s no cure for MND, but some medicines can slow it down. Different therapies can also help manage symptoms and support a good quality of life.
