Understanding multiple sclerosis
The term multiple sclerosis (MS) means ‘many scars’ and refers to the damage caused to the nerve impulses within the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. The symptoms of multiple sclerosis depend on which areas of the central nervous system have been affected and where the scarring is.
MS impacts more young people in Australia than any other chronic progressive neurological disease and is also more common in women than men.
