Guideline number: QH-GDL-502:2022

Effective date:  9 December 2022

Review date: 9 December 2025

Supersedes: Security Guideline for Queensland Health – Health Care Facilities, 2001

Queensland Health's Security Guidelines highlight considerations for improving local practices and promoting safe and secure healthcare environments. The guideline outlines key standard operating procedures that each Hospital and Health Service (HHS) should consider benchmarking with existing procedural instructions or developing additional documents. These guidelines are not intended to supersede existing established local procedures, rather to further inform and align practices (of each HHS) to promote consistency across Queensland Health.

These guidelines have been developed with strong guidance taken from the updated Australian Standards AS 4485.1 and 2:2021 Security for Healthcare Facilities and outlines requirements to be implemented in accordance with legislative obligations and accreditation recommendations in a manner consistent with Queensland Health objectives to ensure the safety and security of employees, patients, visitors, and assets.
